Striving for Perfection

Perfection--unachievable yet irresistible to the fine-art photographer.

The same urge that gets me out of a sleeping bag in sub-freezing temperatures to photograph the sunrise over Mt. Rainier compels me to keep returning to a building to capture its aesthetic essence.

Perfection demands technical expertise especially when photographing architecture, the most technically complex of all photographic subjects. Architecture is always shot on location frequently with extreme differences between highlights and shadows, multiple and conflicting light sources, and distortion from wide angle lenses and non-level camera angles.

Resolving these problems is a tricky business not for the impatient or faint-hearted.
